Early Life and EducationWilliam James "Jimmy" Buffett was born on December 25, 1946, in Pascagoula, Mississippi. He spent his early life in Mobile, Alabama, and attended St. Ignatius School. In 1964, he graduated from McGill Institute for Boys (now McGill-Toolen Catholic High School).
Buffett's musical journey began during his college years at the University of Southern Mississippi. He earned a Bachelor's degree in 1969 and was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.
Music Career
After graduating from university, Buffett worked as a correspondent for Billboard magazine in Nashville. In 1970, he released his debut album, "Down to Earth." His subsequent albums, including "A White Sport Coat and a Pink Crustacean" (1973), "A1A" (1974), and "Havana Daydreamin'" (1976), solidified his status as a country-folk singer.
In 1977, Buffett's album "Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes" became a commercial success. It marked the beginning of his signature "Parrothead" lifestyle, celebrating tropical escapism and coastal living.
Entrepreneurial Ventures
Beyond music, Buffett was also a successful entrepreneur. In 1985, he opened the first Margaritaville restaurant in Key West, Florida. This restaurant became the cornerstone of a growing entertainment empire that includes hotels, restaurants, and a clothing line.
